Group Therapy in Towson, MD

Build skills, find connection, and practice change alongside other people.

Group therapy brings a small number of people together with a licensed clinician to work on shared challenges. It offers something individual therapy can’t: other people who understand. At The Resource Group, our groups are facilitated by our clinicians and offered in person in Towson, with telehealth attendance available.

What is group therapy?

Group therapy is a form of psychotherapy in which a small group meets regularly with a trained clinician. The clinician guides the sessions, and members learn from the group’s shared experience as well as from the clinician. Groups use well-established approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness, and each group has its own focus and format.

Why people choose a group

  • You’re not the only one. Hearing others describe what you’ve been carrying can ease isolation.
  • You can learn from others. Watching someone try a new approach gives you something to borrow and adapt.
  • You get to practice. A group is a supportive place to try new ways of communicating and relating, and to get honest feedback.
  • Helping others helps you. Offering encouragement strengthens your own sense of capability.
  • Belonging matters. Research on group therapy points to a sense of belonging as a key factor in how much people benefit.
